Family tradition since 1871

Family history spanning six generations.

1871

On Kirchweih Sunday, October 15th, 1871, Joseph Siebenrock opened a tavern at Bohl. “Rosengarten” offered not only the local population but also the workers on the nearby railway line the opportunity to stop by. When Siebenrock died, his widow married Gerold Speh from Walke. He took over the impressive inn and the extensive agriculture associated with it. After the co-founder’s death, he married Luzia Spalt from Heudorf. Speh died in 1916 and his widow married Adolf Schmid, who was the “Rosenwirt” until 1940, also a widower.
After him, Karl Speh, the son from his mother’s first marriage, took over the property. Together with his wife Wally, née Reiner from Mengen, he ran the “Rosengarten” for over 30 years and made it a well-known inn for its good bourgeois cuisine. In addition, “Pfeifen-Karle”, as the sociable host was called by the locals, ran his large agriculture. With his impressive horse-drawn carriage, his pride and joy, he was a well-known local character.

1972

In 1972, in the fifth consecutive family generation, the reputable guesthouse was passed on to Rosemarie and Hubert Krugger. After the farm was relocated, they removed the agricultural buildings, built a multi-story residential building, and completely renovated the dining rooms. Thanks to excellent cuisine and hospitable service, they succeeded in making the “Rosengarten” a well-known establishment throughout the region.

2006

In 2006, two professionally trained experts, Gerd Krugger and Marlies Zimmermann, took over the family estate. After a major renovation in 2006, they expanded the dining rooms and renovated the kitchen and other areas. They began raising Galloway cattle on their own agricultural land in 2008 for use in the restaurant. Since then, the old “Rosengarten” has been known as the “Rinderwirt” (“Beef Inn”). In 2013/14, they added a hotel to their business, providing another revenue stream. The new hotel and restaurant meet the standards of modern gastronomy and are popular both nationally and internationally. With their three daughters Lena, Hannah, and Romy, the next generation is already in place to continue the family tradition.
